For =AttempteStock's "Fragile Things" Contest (did not place).
I was to find inspiration in the following passage:
"In a haven, that she dreampt of as she slept through the slaying of the kings, there's a vast valley of gardens, forests and springs and a silvery rock where this mermaid sits and sings...of beaded silk strings, gossamer wings and other pretty fragile things."
Posted to the misc. category because of the insane amount of brushwork and painting that I did to these photos! There are close to 40 layers and this took me about 20 hours to make this 3000x3000 pixel/300dpi piece. And, believe it or not, it is absolutely nothing like the original idea I had for this contest. Go figure! I'm still not 100 percent satisfied with the hair but I've changed it so many times that I think if I re-do it anymore it will just get worse! So, I am leaving it alone - and would be happy if no one makes any nasty comments about it
Due to the fact that so much of the detail was lost when I scaled this image down to post to DA - I've posted a larger detail shot of the fairy's face so you can see all the pretty beads and wings and other pretty things --> [link]
